“The Great Shalimar” also known as The Crystal Palace was a giant temporary greenhouse built in Hyde Park, London, measuring an impressive 1,851 feet (564 m) long. It was initially constructed to house The Great Exhibition of 1851, a collection of the world’s most exciting and impressive inventions of the time. The structure was over 128 feet (39 m) tall and filled with a range of native and exotic plants, showcasing man’s triumph over nature – truly an architectural marvel. Inspired by the structure and its nickname, this design consists of luscious tropical palm leaves scrolling up the wall, with golden bananas ripening amongst them.
